What’s the benefit of an Umbrella insurance policy?
For example: I have a friend who has a million dollars of liability coverage on her homeowners policy because an umbrella policy would cost more than simply increasing her HO coverage.
I think “friend” hasn’t run the numbers. Going from $500,000 to $1,000,000 on your homeowners probably costs less than $50. An umbrella STARTS at $150.
But, the main benefits are:
1. It gives you a LOT more coverage – an EXTRA million, on your autos, your home, your motorcycles, whatever.
2. It can cover some risks that aren’t covered under your underlying policies. Like if you hit someone with your golf cart, at the golf course, and they sue you.
