If the other driver doesn’t file an accident report, does the insurance agency get the report?
If someone caused an accident and filed a report the next day, only to find out that the person they hit has yet to report it. A) Will the insurance agency get a copy of the report? B) Will the accident go on the person’s driving record?
Additional Information: Accident took place in IN. Driver is from IL. The damage is valued at less than $1000.
Thank you for your responses.
A: The reporting driver’s insurance company will not get a copy of the report, but they will see the accident on the reporting driver’s MVR (motor vehicle record) the next time they review the policy (usually evey six months).
B: Yes, the accident will go on the reporting person’s MVR.
If you report the accident to your insurance company, they will request a copy of the police report. (By the way, reporting an accident with damage less than $1000 makes little sense, as your deductable is usually a large part of the damage, and you’d get a small settlement check and a large increase in insurance premiums.)
